The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has activated the ranking system ahead of the 2025/26 admission exercise. The implication is that candidates can now confirm their rankings, as this will determine their admission chances.
The ranking system is applied to 1,905,539 candidates who sat for the 2025 UTME. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyode, said the ranking system will help reduce the chances of fraud and impersonation, as it will be more difficult for candidates to parade fake or inflated scores when their exact rank is visible.
The ranking system is not just a factual display, it is equally a determining factor for admission this year. What does this mean? Students with high rank have a strong chance of gaining admission into the university, vice versa.
However, it is germane to also balance the fact by stating that the ranking system is not the ultimate factor. Don't forget that your Post UTME performance will also be considered. While you might have a great rank, don't become complacent. We have candidates with great UTME scores with a failed admission.
The JAMB's 2025 UTME Ranks
In the 2025 UTME, candidate rankings reflect how competitive each score is among nearly two million test-takers. A very high score of 370 earns a top-20 position, specifically 16th place, while a score of 320 ranks at 5,806, and 250 places a candidate at 107,819. As scores decrease, rankings drop significantly: a score of 200 places a candidate at 533,805, and 180 ranks even lower at 948,026.
For much lower scores, the rankings approach the bottom of the pool, with 140 ranked at 1,855,607, 120 at 1,900,872, and 100 nearly at the end of the list at 1,903,661. This distribution shows how small differences in scores can result in large shifts in ranking, especially in the mid-to-lower score range.
UTME score can indicate impending fortune, but it can still slip off. I strongly counsel every Aspirant to gird up their loins. Don't be in a state of rest yet. Your admission is secured by God's grace and a competent Educational Consultant.
