The Federal Ministry of Education (FME)'s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program is an initiative in Nigeria aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical, industry-relevant technical and vocational skills for employment or entrepreneurship. - North West which consist Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

- South South which consist Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers.
- South West which consist Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo.
These zones, which are administrative divisions grouping states with similar ethnic, cultural, or political ties, facilitate the distribution of the FME TVET resources and programs, making the initiative covers all diverse regions of Nigeria.
The programmes available for the FME TVET initiative
The Federal Ministry of Education is offering the TVET initiative in two programmes: Short-Term Certificate (STC) Programme (6 Months), and Vocational Education & Innovation (VEI) Programme (12 months).
The Short-Term Certificate (STC) programme is a 6 Months programme that target first-time trainees, school leavers, or individuals with no formal educational background.
The Vocational Education and Innovation (VEI) Programme is a 12 months (1 year) programme that targets individuals with some education or informal training experience, looking to deepen and formalize their skills.

How to Apply for TVET on FME Portal
Application process is simple but before we dive into it, let's briefly talk about the criteria and documents needed to complete application for the FME TVET.
Documents Needed and Criterias
- Applicants must be 18-years or above and must be a Nigerian.
- Must be able to provide basic personal information like full legal names as they're displayed in their valid ID cards.
- Bank Verification Number (BVN) is required. This is needed because your bank account details will be confirmed for the N45,000 monthly stipend.
- National Identification Number (NIN) or other national means of identification, such as Voter's Card or International Passport, is also required.
- Proof of Education is also needed. You can provide proof of skills gained through informal means or apprenticeship, a First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC), or any non-formal education certificate, such as those obtained from training programs offered by NGOs, religious institutions, nomadic education, or community initiatives.
Once you have all these documents and accurate information in place, then you can move to FME TVET application portal to submit your application without any error or delay.
Submitting Application Online
Follow these steps to successfully submit application for the Federal Ministry of Education's Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme:
- On your device browser, visit the tvet education gov ng website via http://tvet.education.gov.ng/ and click on APPLY.
- You'll be redirected to a page where you will verify your NIN. To verify your NIN, enter your NIN and your date of birth (DOB).
- After the NIN verification, on the next page, your email address and phone number will be required. Submit them and authenticate your access to them through the OTP code sent to you via the number and email.
- Once you confirm the OTP, your TVET account will be created. Then, you can proceed with the application by logging into the account.
- Once you login, select your preferred Program – STC for 6 months or VEI for 12 months), and click on proceed.
- On the next page, select your preferred sub-programmes such as Solar PV Installation & Maintenance. The full list of the available sub-programmes are listed above.
- After that, you'll get a welcoming message with further instructions on how to begin your trainings. Once you start your training, you'll be getting a monthly stipend of N45,000 from government.
It's important to note that after the application and you've been successfully enrolled into the programme, you'll need to be visiting the technical colleges, state institutions, or private vocational centres in your region with the FME TVET certification for your training. The FME TVET certification will be available for download and to be printed on your portal after the successful application.
Meanwhile, after the training programme, you'll be issued another certification that proof your expertise in the field you enrolled to. This certificate is recognized nationally and internationally upon completion.
